Our story

Nearly two centuries of grit and grace

A Sunday School on Curtain Road

The Tab begins as a humble children's Sunday School, a stone's throw from where we meet today.

Providence Chapel

The congregation moves to Austin Street and builds "Providence Chapel" on the church's current site.

The Spurgeon years

Rebuilt by William Cuff, a protégé of Charles Spurgeon. The Tabernacle flourishes as a home for every class and background.

Courage in the Blitz

Bombs hit the school hall during an evening service. Young members race to put out fires and climb the roof to tackle an unexploded bomb.

A new building opens

After redevelopment with the neighbouring Mildmay hospital, and a pandemic delay, our new church officially opens on Hackney Road.

Making the Tab a place, and a church, for all.

Rev Georgina Stride heard the call to ministry young, trained at Spurgeon's College and is passionate about people growing in the Lord and fulfilling their God-given destinies. She and Steve have been married for over forty years.
